Just a quick (and from me, final) mod post to say a big thankyou to those who offered much appreciated support and those who have offered specific technical assistance with the transfer of the Rugbytackling archive next year; [livejournal.com profile] afra_schatz has very kindly offered to work with those skilled people and will no doubt be in touch in the future to discuss the way forward. Also, I have handed on the reins of [livejournal.com profile] rugbytackle to [livejournal.com profile] afra_schatz and [livejournal.com profile] evocates - and I wish them both well.

Thanks to members for their continued support of the comm over the years. Contrary to what some might think, there are no 'rats' here. Whilst the VigBean fandom might be quiet these days - in comparison to those early, heady times when eight or more fics each day wasn't uncommon - it doesn't mean it is a sinking ship. And I am not leaving the fandom; just taking a step back for personal reasons. This is still a special place inhabited by some lovely people - and I hope that it will long continue to be so ♥

Have a great Christmas/Yule/holiday!

I expect you are getting bored of these updates by now, but...

We have now established that we are not in possession of the necessary account/payment verification required to permit us to financially support the archive with the current web host.

[livejournal.com profile] margot_iris has let us know that she has back up files of the site, meaning that the archive could be re-established with a different web host when the current period ends in June next year. However, [livejournal.com profile] alex_quine then raised the issue of rugbytackling.com being part of [livejournal.com profile] govi20's estate and therefore covered by probate, meaning that any future work on the site might require contact with her executors. To be honest, just the possibility of this scenario makes me feel very uncomfortable, and I personally am not prepared to investigate the matter further. Others might feel differently of course, so...

I am looking for a volunteer (or volunteers) with the relevant web skills to a) explore what will be required to keep the RT archive available from next June onwards, and b) providing all requirements are met, to organise its transfer when the time comes. Clearly, a decision will need to made as to whether the archive continues to be a live one (i.e. someone taking on responsibility to update it as Carol did) if that is possible, or a historical one - which is what would have been the case had we simply been able to continue to fund the existing host site. Another important issue is to manage donations from members who have said they wish to help pay for the archive (through a paypal account seems to be the obvious choice). For your information, I understand that Carol paid around €45 in total (€8 for the domain name and the rest for hosting the archive).

I am also taking this opportunity to let you know that I am standing down as maintainer/owner of [livejournal.com profile] rugbytackle; my lovely friend and co-maintainer [livejournal.com profile] moldava has already stood down. I have been thinking about doing this for a while and the sad deaths of Carol and Jeanne have only confirmed my need to take more than a few steps away from all things fandom related. Besides, I have been mod here on RT for the last seven years and a change is well overdue. Any takers please? If there are a number of volunteers, I can name all of you as maintainers but you will need to agree who is the owner (since 2011, this has been a Livejournal requirement); see here for details. Under normal circumstances, the role of community maintainer is far from onerous! I was maintainer when [livejournal.com profile] milochka kept the archive and when [livejournal.com profile] govi20 took it over, so the owner/maintainer does not need to be the same person who looks after the archive, though obviously it could be.

Please let me know (lj message me) or leave a comment here if you would be willing to take on either the RT archive role or the maintainer role or both. I will not be taking part in any future archive or community development, so if you want to make sure the archive is transferred successfully, then please come forward and nail your VigBean colours to the mast, so to speak!

Thanks
Heath

The lovely [livejournal.com profile] afra_schatz very kindly messaged me last night with her support for which I am very grateful. She has also contacted efiction to explore how we might keep the archive - and this morning I have contacted the domain name register company and the web host company. We have asked them all the same question, i.e would they accept continued payment by a third party (or third parties) without a change of ownership in order to keep the archive as it is with no future updates. As soon as a response is forthcoming, I'll let you know.

ETA: Not good news from the web host, I'm afraid. Although we know when the payment is due and how much, because we don't have the actual paypal transaction ID or last four digits of the card Carol used to pay for the account, we do not have sufficient verification for the web host to permit us to pay. I have asked them to re-consider this decision.

Hi all

Following a back and forth and very informative conversation with [livejournal.com profile] loucifer67, I am confirming that the Rugbytackling archive will no longer be updated and will lapse in May/June 2014 upon completion of the current paid period. So if you want to continue to enjoy particular fics, then you have about six months to find and copy them for your own private reading pleasure (I know many people do this anyway). I understand that Carol and Jeanne (who was planning to take over responsibility from Carol) had decided it was probably time let it go - and I agree. If the comm itself was still buzzing, then maybe I'd feel differently, but the truth is that most people have moved on and the fandom has all but run its course; which is how things go.

Of course all fics that have been posted here on [livejournal.com profile] rugbytackle over the years can still be found by browsing the history link above (this by [livejournal.com profile] asynje is a particular favourite of mine from January 2004 - and this by [livejournal.com profile] uisgich from the same month, which makes me cry each time I read it), but if you want to search by a particular author, go to the Rugbytackling archive while you can!

Many thanks

Heath ([livejournal.com profile] liars_dance)

ETA: In response to aggrieved comments, this not simply an issue of money - it is about access and ongoing responsibility for the archive. If you know someone who has the skills, time and interest to look into getting access to and maintaining the archive, then of course please feel free to look into it.

Just letting everyone know that with the recent sad loss of [livejournal.com profile] govi20, the rugbytackling archive is unlikely to be updated. The number of fics being posted to the comm has been falling over the last few years and my understanding is that Carol did not need or have any assistance with updating the archive - nor did she hand on that responsibility to anyone. The site is powered by efiction but I have no knowledge of how long it will continue to be hosted.

Unless someone lets me know to the contrary that they do have access to the archive and are willing to take ongoing responsibility for it, I think we must consider it as reference only from now on, and once again, I thank Carol for all the work she put into collating the VigBean love.

A photo of our wonderful men posted in memory of two of our community's most treasured writers and contributors, [livejournal.com profile] mooms and [livejournal.com profile] govi20 - who both passed away this month. They were the best of friends in life and I like to think that they are somewhere right now giggling and planning their next venture.

Dearest Carol and Jeanne - you will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved you. Sleep well.

The Captain and the Queen [6/6]

Characters/Pairing: Gradually-building Boromir/Arwen; established Aragorn/Arwen and Aragorn/Boromir; leading up to Aragorn/Boromir/Arwen. Also featuring: Faramir and a literal village full of OCs.
Rating: NC-17 in this part
Words: ~5800 in this part, ~32,800 in total
Disclaimer: All recognisable characters belong to the Tolkien estate. I’m just playing with them.
Summary: Three years after she was crowned the Queen of Gondor, Arwen finds Boromir in a small village near the Stone of Erech. Finding him seems easy when compared to her new Quest of bringing the Son of Gondor back home. Sort of fulfils this Arwen/Aragorn/Boromir prompt on [livejournal.com profile] hobbit_kink.
Notes: Subtitled “An Exploration of the Problems of a Postwar Gondor”. This is the last part; I’m done posting.
