Sustenance

They meant to eat, truly they did.

But as the light of day streamed through the windows, it seemed to enter their hearts and they knew that any tangible refreshment enjoyed at breakfast would be left behind, forgotten once the day began in earnest.

Distractions, always plenty; in tranquillity or turbulence; happiness or sorrow; always the two of them; always sharing; steadfastly loving.

Work or pleasure, it didn’t matter, they found their breath and nourishment in each other, acting as a balm of peace, a purifying wind, granting each other radiance of love.

And that breakfast never did get eaten . . .
