On a general level, all I can say is how very very good this is, both due to the careful style and the pacing. It's all written very tightly and controlled.

But you go beyond that because you are also describing - through dialogue and character thoughts - the growth of a relationship in which trust is being built and each learns more deeply about the other as they traverse it all.

Excellent work.
