Crossing Bridges

I find it difficult to be a man in this changing world, you know. Sometimes I don’t know which way to go – tough guy or softie? I find it difficult to act on instinct anymore, because it’s not really instinct, I’m told, just the way our fathers taught us to do things.

Bridges, I’d always thought, are crossed to get away from something, or to approach something; Sean showed me both. We’re told never to cross a bridge until we come to it, but he, somehow, has crossed a bridge in his imagination and he’s far ahead of the crowd.

Your lovers here are joined by a sense of journeying, sometimes bravely, sometimes tentatively, unwillingly, joyously and there is both admiration in your Viggo's musings and a wish to live up to his beloved.

That is a very thought-provoking piece, especially for such a short one. (I like having my thoughts provoked.)

Thank you for the link. My vote for undestatement of the year goes to it may be approaching two decades since filming, but he is unlikely to be forgotten as Mellors in Lady Chatterley.
