lotr100 Might-Have-Been challenge, and this is the last one!
Aragorn tried to get his feet under him, but his head cracked on a rock and the waters drove him under and he felt himself begin to die. He saw before him a familiar shape, a warrior of Gondor with blond hair and green eyes.
“Boromir,” he murmured.
The warrior embraced him, “It is not your time, go back.”
“I don’t want to leave you,” Aragorn protested.
“I swear I will wait for you. When it is your time at last, I will be there.” Boromir bent to give him a searing kiss. “But you promised to save our people!” With that, strong arms thrust him to the surface and Aragorn drifted into the shallows, still alive.
