Viggo saw how Sean’s eyes followed Orli as he walked into the mess tent, trying hard to pretend he was not watching his every move, as Viggo tried hard to pretend he wasn’t feeling the sting of jealousy.

“You could just go talk with him,” Viggo remarked and sat down beside Sean at his table, a plate filled with whatever was for lunch today. Sean’s green eyes moved away from Orli to settle on Viggo’s face and the sad look in his eyes when he had watched Orli disappeared as he smiled a warm smile that reached his eyes.

“And say what, Vig? No, it’s okay. If he can pretend we were never more than friends then so can I,” Sean insisted, fighting back the hint of sadness just saying those words brought him. All the same, despite his better judgment and vow to be strong, he was tempted to go to Orli… just to be near him again. He had never known that love could be so addictive but these two months without Orli had been Hell, his face and voice had haunted him both day and night and every smile that Orli shared with someone else broke another piece off his heart. If it hadn’t been for Viggo he didn’t know what he would have done. He had been there through it all, always patient, always understanding. After the breakup with Orli, Viggo had suggested Sean moved in with him, claiming that he felt lonely without his son and wanted another human in the house. Sean knew it wasn’t true; Viggo often had it better on his own and regularly sought solitude. He knew that Viggo was just offering his support in a way which Sean could accept without having to ask for help. So he had moved into Viggo’s house, still keeping his own though he always slept in Viggo’s guestroom. Viggo’s house was much more a home than what Sean’s had ever been. There were paintings, writings and photographs everywhere. The entire house held this air and feeling of Viggo around it and Sean found it calmed him -- no, Viggo calmed him, he corrected himself. There was just this… indescribable spirituality around Viggo, this depth… He couldn’t really explain it but it was something far deeper than he had ever found in any other person he had ever met.

At first Sean had feared staying with Viggo would feel strange, awkward even but it hadn’t. In fact it had felt natural, calming and…right somehow. When Sean needed his space Viggo went to write or paint, when Viggo got into one of his artist moods, anything from writing for hours to wanting to paint Sean, he let him. They always eat their meals together and talked about the day’s shots, more so if they had had different ones. Afterwards Sean would often try and catch an interesting program on TV while Viggo would write or read something, sitting silently beside him in the living room. Despite the fact that they were doing different things Sean always felt like they were together anyway.

The first nights had been the hardest. Sean wasn’t used to sleeping alone and had never liked it. As he thought about it maybe it was more fear of being alone than real love which had made him marry three times. There was something he feared about being alone in the dark shadows of night, without anyone to hold. He didn’t know what it was, couldn’t put his finger on it but it was unsettling to say the least. That first night when Sean had asked Viggo to stay he had feared the morning would be hard to face, but when Sean had awakened, Viggo had already left, having left a note saying he had early shots while Sean’s weren’t till past noon and that he should just sleep in. Smiling Sean had done just that. The coming nights Viggo had come to Sean and slept beside him; his touch warm and loving but always as gentle as a father’s around a child. Sean had briefly wondered if he comforted Henry like this. Then, as Sean had begun to feel stronger, his depression lifting somewhat Viggo had stopped coming to his room. Just knowing Viggo was in the house, in the room next door still made it easier for Sean to fall asleep.

“Very well. I just think maybe you need some closure on this matter,” Viggo mumbled but let it go, breaking Sean’s trail of thought. Sometimes it was hard for Viggo to remember that Orli was a friend; not a rival. No, he didn’t hate him, no, he wasn’t jealous of him… Though sometimes, when Sean with a simple word, just his name, spoke oceans of pain, need and love, Viggo could have trouble remembering that.

Viggo’s eyes settled on Orli across the room. The young man turned a little so that Viggo could see that he was smiling at something with the Hobbits, but then he turned fully around so that his back was turned to Viggo. Elijah was facing his way and as he followed him with his eyes he noticed how Elijah’s eyes seemed as though glued to Orli as he spoke, saw the way his hand had casually come closer and closer to Orli’s so they were now just barely touching on the table. He caught Elijah’s eye and suddenly, as their eyes met across the room, Viggo could see his own frustration reflected in Elijah’s deep blue eyes. Miranda had compared Elijah to an angel in grace and beauty but in that moment all Viggo saw was a young man hopelessly in love and so lost about it all. Seeing his pain, Viggo felt a sudden urge to knock both Orli and Sean over the head and then hand Orli to Elijah so Viggo could finally be with Sean the way he truly wished to be.

Viggo drew a deep breath. That wouldn’t do, of course. In a civilized world there were rules to play by, though no one seemed to have cared to explain them to him. Not to mention that though Viggo had no doubt about Sean’s friendship he wasn’t by far sure of his love. He had hoped that by helping Sean get over Orli he would turn around and see him… Look into his eyes and notice the love shinning there… But so far he hadn’t. In fact the nights where Viggo had held him, fighting to keep calm, breathe normally and not do or say anything he would regret, Sean seemed to find it all as natural and casual, as a brother to a brother -- that wasn’t the way Viggo had hoped this would go.

Viggo frowned thoughtfully. Maybe the broken dream he should work on repairing wasn’t Sean’s… but his own.

The End

All I am going to say is this:
"Those who see the human for what he is, a creature of complicated webs of confusing emotions, like a caleidoscope, ever changing and yet as steady as an ancient tree and can put this into words are masters of their art and the tru seers of this world"

Quote by yours truly :)
