“Had to be a bloody chopper,” Sean cursed under his breath and eyed the chopper with fear and hate.
As if it hadn’t been enough that when he and Orli had gotten lost a few days ago they had had to be flown back by chopper… Now PJ wanted him to fly in one again for not only one shot -- but the next many days shots?!
“It’ll be alright,” suddenly Orli was beside him, his voice surprisingly gentle and encouraging.
Sean smiled gratefully at him. Orli had noticed his fear of flying when they had been brought back and had been there for him, taking his hand in a secure grip and trying to take his mind off things by telling him wild and probably untrue tales of his youth. Their stranding together had done them both a world of good. Since that day where Orli had come to Sean and he had chosen Viggo instead they had been distant and had avoided talking much to each other, finding the situation uncomfortable. However while they had been stranded they had gotten a chance to talk about their relationship though they had both made sure to avoid any issues which were still painful for either of them. Despite the hurt and pain they both still felt in regard to their failed relationship then they had agreed to remain friends. Sean’s ordeal with the chopper had brought that promise home and since then they had resumed a warm friendship, both choosing to push the memories of their time together to the back of their minds as best they could so that they could go on with their lives and remain friends.
“You all right, Sean?” Viggo asked, concerned, a hint of fire in his eyes as he noticed how close Sean and Orli stood. It had only been three weeks since he had been with Sean for the first time and since Orli and Sean’s stranding together two days ago he had grown more and more worried that something might have happened between the two of them, despite both men’s assurance that nothing had happened.
“I just hate flying,” Sean mumbled as he got into the chopper with Viggo close behind, followed by Elijah and Orli. The others would follow in the other chopper which Astin was still checking for security risks, much to the pilot’s dismay.
“I’m here for you,” Viggo assured him softly as he seated himself beside Sean and took his right hand between his slightly larger ones, holding it safe and warm. Sean smiled at him though it was strained as he heard the pilot say he was ready for take off.
“Thanks,” he mumbled. Viggo was silent, trying to calm him with his presence and the feel of him though suddenly Sean wished Orli were sitting next to him instead. He hadn’t changed his mind; he loved Viggo but a part of him still loved Orli. His stranding with Orli hadn’t changed that though it had made both men’s pain in regard to their loss resurface. Thinking about it now Sean saw Orli a bit like the young, wild, beautiful but uncontrollable lover that everyone gets drawn to but who very few can keep for a lifetime because such a hurricane of a man would rarely wish to settle down. Sean had admitted to himself that Orli and his goals and desires from life were very different, probably mostly due to the fact that Orli was still so young, even younger at heart than what his age claimed, and that he had his whole life and a brilliant career ahead of him. Naturally his dreams would differ from Sean’s own who had already experienced so much from life. Yet all logic tended to fail when the heart was involved and Sean knew Orli would always hold a special place in his heart. He knew he loved Viggo and wanted to be with him forever and he had never regretted his decision to stay with him but at times his heart would yearn for the impossible.
Sean’s thoughts returned to when he had been stranded with Orli and he recalled how Orli’s presence in the chopper as they had flown back, his constant talking, story telling, teasing touches and hand holding had much more efficiently taken his mind off his fears than Viggo’s quiet presence did. Normally he preferred Viggo’s quiet ways to Orli’s wild heart; knew it would last in the long run but at times, especially times like these… He found himself wanting Orli beside him -- and that scared and angered him.
Sean closed his eyes as the chopper took off, biting hard into his lower lip until he tasted blood on his tongue. His hand squeezed hard against Viggo’s and found a reassuring squeeze in return. ‘We’re not gonna fall, we’re not gonna fall,’ Sean kept repeating in his mind but sweat began to appear on his brow as he dared to open his eyes. He could see outside and they were now heading towards a mountain, snow everywhere.
“Oh, shit… We’re gonna die,” Sean mumbled, wishing it was all over, that he was anywhere but here.
“We’ll be fine,” Orli’s voice reached him from his seat behind him. Sean tried to smile at him in thanks for the comforting words but it turned into a grimace.
“There’s nothing to be afraid of,” Elijah tried to calm him, wanting to break whatever was between Orli and Sean. Damn! Hadn’t he and Viggo just gone through this? He too had had his fears about Sean and Orli since they had been stranded together, fears Viggo had confirmed he had as well. Not that he had said it in that many words but still… It hadn’t helped that when Orli and Sean had finally come back after Viggo and Elijah had been worried sick they had been holding hands as Orli helped Sean out of the chopper. They quickly separated as they saw their respective lovers though. Sean had run to meet Viggo and Elijah had come to Orli, both couples exchanging hugs and kisses but Elijah and Viggo had still felt some renewed fear about the relationships they were in. Elijah knew his fear for losing Orli was a much more real fear than Viggo’s. His relationship with Orli was very new and it worried Elijah that Orli hadn’t taken the time to mourn the loss of Sean before he had started a relationship with him. He had headed on, laughing and teasing as always but Elijah could see the pain in his eyes. He feverishly hoped that by loving Orli and reassuring him of that love Orli would get over Sean and see what was right before his eyes. Elijah understood the attraction of things, which were impossible to have, or which you knew weren’t meant for you. He just wished that Orli would realize this and maybe, in time when he was ready to settle down a little, he would choose to do so with him. Though Elijah had been a well known actor for years in contract to Orli then he was only a few years younger than him. They had a lot of interests in common and Elijah hoped that when Orli was tired of riding the wave of fame and fortune he would see this. He knew that Orli would bash in the attention he would get after the movie wrapped up, knew he would get a lot of offers and Elijah truly wished him to enjoy all that money, fame and attention to the fullest. He just prayed that when Orli got tired off it or used to it, like he had, he would look for a more permanent relationship and he hoped he would look for it with him. No matter how long a time it might take for Orli to tire of the very addictive spotlight then Elijah would wait for him, as his lover hidden in the shadows or as his friend waiting to once again be more than that. Not until Orli had publicly said he swore a lifelong commitment to someone else would he give up. He might be young but he knew what he wanted from life and who he wished to share his life with; having been an actor since childhood had made him grow up quickly in that area.
“Easy for you to say,” Sean mumbled. He was sure he felt the chopper descending. They were falling! He was sure of it. He closed his eyes, trying to keep the image of coming doom away but to no avail.
“Orli.” The name escaped his lips before he could stop it. In his fear Sean didn’t have time to think about what he had said. Suddenly he felt Viggo’s hand disappear and his fear intensified.
“I’m here. Everything is going to be okay. We’re almost there. We aren’t falling,” Orli calmed him and suddenly his hand was held again, this time by Orli. When Sean reopened his eyes he saw Orli and Viggo had exchanged places so that Orli was now sitting next to him. He tried to hold Viggo’s eyes but the older man was avoiding his gaze. However the fear was still too near for him to worry about that. A sudden bump shook Sean, making him almost jump out of his seat.
“It’s all right. We have landed,” Viggo told him but though his words were reassuring, his voice was controlled and held no real warmth. Though he knew people could saw a lot of things they did not mean when they were afraid then Viggo couldn’t help but feel hurt and betrayed that Sean would call for Orli in his time of need instead of him. He knew it was a childish hurt but his relationship with Sean was still so new and after all the history Sean and Orli shared then his heart was unwilling to listen to his head’s reassurances. As soon as a crewmember opened the door to the chopper Viggo went past where Sean and Orli sat and jumped out, needing some distance between Sean and himself to make sure he didn’t say something he might regret. Elijah followed after, casting a small smile at Orli though his eyes were sad. Even though it had been Viggo who had motioned to Orli that they should exchange seats Elijah feared that Sean might have changed his mind and if he had he was sure Orli would change his too, leaving him alone.
“Come,” Orli said softly and helped Sean out of the chopper, fighting down his desires to take advantage of Sean in this weakened state. They had agreed to remain friends and they had both accepted this. He had to learn to live with it though he knew he wasn’t quite ready to do so yet. It would take time…Sean’s call for him had proved that they would both need time before their relationship could remain in the past in not only in their minds but in their hearts as well.
“Finally!” Sean hurried away from the chopper, releasing Orli’s hand as soon as he didn’t need his support any longer. He stood still for a while, trying to regain his breath. He saw Elijah standing close by watching Orli but Orli’s eyes were on Sean. Sean’s gaze went searching for Viggo and he found him talking to Peter. Sean felt a stab of pain that Viggo wasn’t there to try and calm him after the chopper ride.
“You all right now?” Orli asked and Sean nodded. “Then I’ll go talk with Lij.” Orli began to walk away but Sean stopped him with a hand on his shoulder.
“Thanks.” It seemed like such a poor word but it was all he had. Orli simply nodded. Sean cast a look at Elijah who was still waiting for Orli, a small forced smile on his lips yet a sad look in his big blue eyes. “I’m sorry if I caused trouble between you and Lij.”
“Don’t worry about it. It’s nothing I can’t fix. He’ll be as happy as ever within the hour,” Orli promised and smiled at him as he walked over to Elijah and promptly laid his arms around him and kissed him. Sean smiled at them. Oh, that he could believe. His smile died as his eyes again found Viggo. Taking a deep breath, he began to walk towards Viggo and Peter, not sure why he felt nervous about talking with Viggo again… After all he had done nothing wrong.
“Sean,” Peter acknowledged as he reached him and Viggo but Viggo was quiet. Trying to hide his pain, Sean turned to Peter, ignoring Viggo.
“I’m not flying with any more bloody choppers. I not care what I’ll have to do. I’m not doing it!” Sean said it all at once, fear making his voice sharp.
“Well, Sean… I don’t care how you get back and forth from location, just you show up. However… The trip up here takes several hours on foot and you can’t drive,” Peter warned, light worry for one of his main actors in his voice.
“I’ll walk and I’ll get there on time,” Sean promised, feeling relieved at the thought that he didn’t have to fly again. “Thanks,” he added warmly and Peter nodded.
Sean turned to Viggo, suddenly feeling it was a very tense situation, something he had never felt with Viggo before. He wanted to ask Viggo if he would like to keep him company when he walked to and from location but Viggo’s expression was closed, a hurt look in his eyes. Viggo didn’t break the silence and finally Sean gave up and turned away… praying he wasn’t about to walk out on everything he had just found.
