Title: Hope and Despair Part 4
Author: Sadness1986
Pairing: Aragorn/Boromir
Rating: NC-17
Warning: angst, AU
Summary: There's no hope in despair.
Notes: You insisted, so I'm writing a series, I didn't plan at all. And I'll take revenge, you know me well. I just say cliff-hangers, angst and angst...
Aragorn travels guarded, the eyes of a dead one following his every move. Sometimes, he is able to feel him, like an embrace before he falls asleep.
He doesn't show his feelings anymore, just Gandalf's sudden appearance catches him out of guard and for a moment, the wizard is able to see Boromir standing like a shadow behind Aragorn, one hand on his shoulder, his emerald eyes piercing Gandalf to the core, he's unable to read them, unable to even say the Steward's son's name anymore.
Boromir smiles.
Aragorn sees him for the first time, after he fell into that river. Boromir's voice, more persistent than the voice of the One Ring, urges him not to give up, to fight: "Gondor has no king, Gondor needs a king. You are not allowed to die. You have to lead our people to victory and glory!" And softer he adds: "I love you..."
And Aragorn coughs water and his wet lashes flutter open helplessly like the wings of a caught moth, frayed and weak, to face Boromir hovering over him, smiling softly at him, then breathing a shadow of a kiss on Aragorn's sore lips, washing away every trace of Arwen with the river, that takes her necklace within its flood.
As he fades, Aragorn desperately tries to cling to him: "Stay, don't leave me alone..."
Boromir answers: "You'll never be alone", his voice dark and promising.
