HERO
There was a party going on around him. A cast party hosted by Peter in his house. It was Sunday evening and Sean and Viggo had had the day off, presumably because Viggo had cried while begging PJ for it. Sean seriously doubted the validity of Viggo's story, but really nothing surprised him about Viggo anymore. Especially after the conversation he had with him earlier at lunchtime.
They had left the restaurant after lunch, not speaking so much as communicating to each other by glances that weren't so quick anymore, and occasional brushes of the arm that were inevitable as they walked purposely closer to each other down the sidewalk, waiting for that hand clasp that neither of them felt bold enough to initiate at that point. The ride up in the elevator was just as silent but their eyes never left each other, and they shared smiles almost shyly.
Viggo had left Sean at his door and they both agreed to meet at Peter's party. If it hadn't been for the certainty of seeing Viggo later at the party, Sean might have asked Viggo in right then, but his courage was seriously lacking, and it wasn't like him. Viggo seemed alright with it though and Sean couldn't help but stare at Viggo as he watched him walk down the hallway to the elevator. Viggo occasionally turned to look back at him and smile, obviously liking Sean's attentive gaze. Strangely enough, once Viggo was no longer in sight, Sean felt regretful and had an overwhelming urge to call him back and ask him in. But bravery had abandoned him today it seemed, more than once.
Sean had six more hours until the party and he could think of nothing else all afternoon. Viggo had said he would meet him there because Kiran had wanted Viggo to take him shopping. Viggo hadn't quite figured out how to effectively say 'no' to Kiran yet and probably wouldn't have anyway. Kiran made Viggo laugh and Viggo liked his company and his bossiness. So Sean left for the party alone at seven o'clock and about a half-hour after he arrived, Viggo and Kiran showed up with flowers and red wine. Sean was sitting in the love seat closest to the door and saw Viggo's eyes immediately search the room until he turned and met Sean's eyes. The smile that greeted Sean then was exhilarating. Viggo and Kiran went to the kitchen where a majority of the people were congregated, helping themselves to food and drink. Sean had been only able to accept a beer for tonight. He had been too nervous to eat. He saw Orli hurry into the kitchen just after Viggo went in, and shortly after, Viggo emerged, wiping his cheek with his sweater sleeve. He then went to say hello to Fran and they kissed and hugged. Sean smiled as Viggo approached and Viggo rolled his eyes and ran his fingers through his hair.
"You are officially designated my protector."
Sean grinned.
"Love to. Why?"
Viggo plopped down in the love seat next to Sean, who hadn't left that much room to sit. Their bodies, therefore, were pressed together rather snugly. Sean didn't bother to move and Viggo moved his arm underneath Sean's and leaned his face against Sean's shoulder in a feigned attempt to hide. Viggo's closeness now as he sat next to him was just one more confirmation of their confessions to each other during lunch. Sean hadn't realized just how much he had craved this until this moment. Feeling Viggo's body pressed against his made his heart actually hurt with affection for the man.
Viggo was barefoot and wearing old jeans that were frayed on the bottom with a few specks of green paint here and there. He had on a soft tan sweater that complimented his tanned skin and blue eyes very well. Sean's face beamed as he looked down at Viggo bemusedly.
"You gonna tell me what's going on?" Sean asked.
Viggo wrapped both his arms around Sean's arm, causing Sean to forget to breathe for a moment. Viggo turned his blue eyes up at him.
"I swear if Orli tries to kiss me one more time, I'm gonna sneak into the props department and glue his arrows together."
Sean burst out laughing. "You wouldn't."
"Try me."
Sean laughed louder, picturing Orli trying to pull a sticky glob of arrows from his quiver the next morning during a shoot.
"I thought you liked it?" Sean asked.
Viggo shot him a look of disgust. "Hey, the first time was cute, but this is getting ridiculous."
Sean couldn't help laughing, and the sight of Viggo trying to hide behind his shoulder was so unlike the great warrior he played in the film. It was starting to tickle too.
"I assumed you liked it," Sean whispered.
"Well, what am I supposed to do? He does it in front of everybody all the time to make it look like a joke. I'm not gonna slap him in front of everybody, and he knows it."
"You would slap him?" Sean asked.
"What?" Viggo asked, irritated.
"People don't slap people anymore. That's kind of old fashioned."
Viggo laughed. "Then I'll start wearing my sword to these parties."
Sean laughed. "Yeah, whip that thing out every time he starts coming your way."
Viggo snickered and hugged Sean's arm. His hair was one kiss away from Sean's lips, but Sean refrained. From the kitchen, they heard Dom suddenly shriek with laughter and they both turned just in time to see Billy came sauntering out of the kitchen with a banana hanging out of his fly.
Viggo and Sean looked at each other and rolled their eyes.
Billy came sauntering toward them, swaying his hips comically.
"Fuckin' hobbits," Viggo grinned, "you can't take 'em anywhere."
"That's an improvement there, mate," Sean said, grinning.
"Is that so?" Billy answered. "Fancy a bit of fruit salad, love?"
"I'll pass," Sean said, and Viggo snickered.
Billy laughed. "Suit yourself."
Sean watched him swagger off toward an unsuspecting Fran, who was taking a phone call in the hallway. Then Sean looked down at Viggo and sighed.
"You seriously don't like Orli kissing you?" Sean asked, as Fran shrieked from across the room.
"Listen," Viggo said, trying to look serious, "I mean, first he grabs my face until we're eyeball to eyeball, y'know, most of the time he's breathing watermelon bubble gum or Doritos in my face, and then he smacks me on the lips. I mean, not even taking into account the germ factor here, it's just - you know. And if I'm quick enough, I'm able to turn my face and he gets my cheek instead. And, Geez, it's that kind of kiss my aunt used to give me when I was seven, you know? The kind you feel you gotta wipe off immediately afterward. I mean, c'mon."
Sean burst out laughing and Viggo started giggling against his shoulder.
"I mean," Viggo continued, "would you want someone grabbing your face and planting big wet ones on it all the time?"
"Hmm," Sean said, "depends on who it was."
Viggo looked up at him, wide-eyed. "Yeah? Like who?"
"I dunno," Sean shrugged. "Just depends."
Viggo was fixing him with that bemused stare again, like the one he used at lunch time while he was teasing him about those Internet pictures.
"Yeah?" Viggo said. "C'mon, tell me who."
Sean grinned and shook his head. "Don't know."
Viggo had to lean forward a bit to look up into his eyes. "Bullshit," he said softly. "Now who would it be that you would want giving you big Orli kisses?"
Sean shrugged. "I said I don't know."
Viggo stared at him a moment and then closed his eyes and shook his head.
"Man," he said.
"What?" Sean asked.
Viggo laughed slightly to himself.
"What is it?" Sean asked again.
"You."
"What?"
"Shit," Viggo hissed, and his expression suddenly changed to one of agitation. "Have you always been this way or do you just act this way around me? And don't say 'what?' again."
Sean looked down at him, feeling defensive suddenly and not liking the feeling.
"I don't understand what you mean, then," Sean enunciated purposely.
"And that's exactly what I mean," Viggo said. "The fuck you don't understand."
Sean felt flushed with embarrassment at his words. He didn't like the look of genuine agitation that he had caused in Viggo's face either. He felt like an admonished child. Sean turned his head toward the room scattered with people and he sighed.
"What do you want me to say?" Sean asked, trying to sound agitated also.
"It doesn't matter what I want you to say," Viggo answered. "What matters is what you feel you need to say to me."
He was looking at Sean expectantly, but Sean turned away.
"Do you have anything to say?" Viggo asked, his agitation increasing.
Sean didn't like the tone of Viggo's voice, but he fully understood what he had done to cause it. He reached underneath his arm discreetly and took Viggo's fingers in his hand.
"Ask me again," Sean said.
"What?" Viggo asked.
"Now don't you start," Sean said, and he looked down at Viggo and grinned. Viggo's face relaxed then and he smiled back at him.
"Ask you what I just asked you?" Viggo asked.
"Yes."
"Okay," he said, leaning his head back against the seat. "This may not be exactly it, but is there anyone you would really want to kiss you?"
"Yes."
"Who?"
Sean suddenly lost his nerve. He looked down at Viggo, afraid to see the look of admonishment again, but to his relief, Viggo was looking at him with nothing but affection in his eyes.
Viggo's leg nudged Sean's and then pressed against it. "Tell me," Viggo said, leaning against Sean's arm, his voice lowered intimately, his hands squeezing Sean's arm gently. Sean felt every gland in his body begin to pulsate. "Who would you want giving you big Orli kisses?" Viggo asked. Sean chuckled nervously and rubbed his eyebrow with his index finger. He looked down at Viggo and suddenly fell in love with his expression. That damn teasing look was there again, trying to drive him mad. He found himself staring at Viggo's lips.
"Hmm?" Viggo asked, smiling, and he brought his bare foot to rest on top of Sean's shoe, his thigh still pressing and nudging against Sean's, his fingers gently stroking Sean's wrist.
Sean's breaths were not coming as regularly as they should. He couldn't look away from Viggo's eyes. The combination of Viggo's eyes and his physical teasing was becoming unbearable.
Viggo sighed. "Say it," he whispered.
Sean's breath shuddered.
"You," he tried to whisper back, but no sound came out, just his lips forming the word.
Viggo winced, closed his eyes, and sighed, a lovely smile forming on his lips. He leaned his face against Sean's shoulder and then he pulled himself up slightly and leaned forward, bringing his lips to Sean's ear.
"That was all I wanted to hear," he whispered softly and touched his lips to Sean's earlobe.
It was too much for Sean and he gasped and turned his face to Viggo's, their noses nearly touching. Viggo's lips parted in a smile and his eyes glanced to the side, toward the party in progress. Most of the party was still in the kitchen, but there were a few people sitting on the floor smoking. Viggo laughed slightly, his face still very close to Sean's. "Here?" he asked softly. "You want it here, in front of everyone?"
Sean would have thrown him down on the carpet and ravaged him right there and then, not caring who was looking. Viggo's teasing smile was goading him into it. And then Viggo's eyes turned quickly to the side again.
"Oh shit!"
Sean swerved his head and saw a very drunk Orlando heading directly toward them.
"Sean, Vig, hey!"
Without thinking another second about it, Sean turned toward Viggo and grasped the back of Viggo's neck until his head went back, and he pressed his mouth down onto Viggo's so hard that he heard him moan. Sean found himself counting to ten in his head pushing his mouth onto Viggo's open mouth as Viggo clutched at Sean's shirt, and then Sean plunged his tongue in for good measure before ending the kiss abruptly, leaving Viggo lying back against the loveseat, panting. As Sean turned to Orlando, he would have laughed out loud if he hadn't still been in shock over what he had just done to Viggo. Orlando's mouth and eyes were forming three big O's.
PJ came up behind Orlando giggling, having witnessed the whole thing.
"Well," Peter said, "I know they call it a love seat, but really."
"Did you need anything, Orli?" Sean asked, moving his body to shelter Viggo behind him.
"Um - no," Orli said, bewildered, and he simply turned and walked back straight to the bar.
Sean suddenly heard Viggo break out into a gleeful laugh behind him. Viggo threw his arms around Sean's shoulders, and pulled him back against him.
"My hero," Viggo giggled, and he kissed his cheek.
"Was that one too 'Orli'?" Sean asked.
"A little," Viggo said grinning, "I just wiped my lips on your shirt. Hope you don't mind."
Sean laughed out loud. "Sorry about that," he said.
"Sorry that it was wet or that I wiped it off?"
Sean beamed at him. "I'll try to tidy the next one," he said.
"There'll be more?" Viggo asked, smiling.
Sean thought a minute. "Yes?" he said, timidly.
Viggo rolled his eyes and sighed. "Don't ask it," he said, "say it."
Sean smiled. "Yes," he said.
"Good," Viggo said, "you're learning."
Sean reached over and rolled Viggo's sweater sleeve between his fingers. "I'm not very good with words, you know," he said. "Unless they're someone else's."
Viggo smiled and brought his hand to Sean's face, touching his cheek. "You're afraid of being hurt, Sean," he said, gently. "That's all."
"That's enough," Sean answered.
"But, hey," Viggo said, "life is a risk, you know."
Sean looked at him and nodded.
"So risk it," Viggo said, squeezing his arm. "Just look at what you gained today."
"Yeah," Sean said. "A soggy shirt, thanks to you."
Viggo smiled at him. "It was worth it though, wasn't it?"
Sean smiled. "Yes."
"See?" Viggo asked. "And, Sean-"
Sean leaned back and looked into his eyes. "Hmm?"
"If you ever don't have the words," Viggo said, "just show me."
Sean looked to see if anyone was watching, then he leaned over and kissed Viggo quickly and softly on the lips.
Viggo rested his head on Sean's shoulder.
"Mmm," Viggo said, and he smiled. "See, doesn't hurt a bit, does it?"

Date: 2003-05-01 06:44 am (UTC)psst, don't tell anyone cause i have this reputation of being anti-sweetness *g*
Honestly, though, this is pure sugar (pleasant and natural) rather than saccarhine (leaving that horrible too-sweet aftertaste). Absolutely adore how Vig plops down and informs, doesn't ask, Sean that he's his protector. And PJ's response to the kiss had be in stitches; I could just visualize it perfectly.
Reluctant!Unsure!Sean is just so cute.
