Notes: Sharpe and Colonel Jean Gudin meet for the first time in <i>Sharpe's Tiger</i> (India, 1799), then again in the short story <a href="http://www.ar.com.au/~jriddler/sharpe/xmas.html">Sharpe's Christmas"</a> (Spain, 1813).
