Aragorn would not let him go down to the sea with the arrows still in him.

They’d broken the shafts off roughly. Then Aragorn had carried him down the hillside, cradled in his arms, going slowly on the slippery leaf mould underfoot. And he talked to Boromir all the way, did not care that the Elf and the Dwarf heard him.

As Legolas prepared the boat, Gimli built up the fire for hot water to cleanse him. Aragorn began one last time to undress his love and as his fingers touched Boromir’s skin, he realised that Boromir was still warm.

Oh, sure. Just kill me, whydontcha? Part of me wants to read that last line as a sign that Boromir lives, but the other part just sees it adding to the sniffle factor.

Love the image of Aragorn talking to Boromir as he's carrying him!

Between you and [livejournal.com profile] ladymarshy, I've had to stock up on tissues! Lovely, haunting moments you captured.

If you want a longer sob, try this (used up a box of tissues beta-ing it):

ah, that last sentence just got to me: Aragorn began one last time to undress his love and as his fingers touched Boromir’s skin, he realised that Boromir was still warm. i hope there really is hope.

MAUUGGH! *sobs wildly*

Oh, that's heartrending... I have hope that Boromir's still alive, but how *can* he be.... please tell me there's more, or at least a resolution?

Even so, oh my this is elegant... spare and gorgeously phrased. *sniffles*

Nice. Is this the start of something else or is that going to be it? Should I hope for Boromir to survive?

Such emotion in so few words....

How... odd that you would choose this scene at this moment. I had just been thinking that someone should write about what transpired between the farewell kiss and the launching of the boat.

Perhaps now it will not come to that. This time there is hope....

I think you've ripped my heart out, but in such a beautiful way that I can't complain.

It's the small details that make this so gutting. Gimli preparing hot water; Aragorn taking care not to slip on the leaves as he carries Boromir.

On the first read I found this beautiful and tragic, filled with a deep depth of emotion, Aragorn's heartbreak apparent as he carries Boromir, still talking to him. On the second read I still find all those things, though reading the ending with that little flicker of potential hope was really lovely. However it turns out, a great drabble! ;)

Oh, this is beautiful ! The first time I read it, I found it heartbreakingly sad, and the little details were wonderful. Then I read it again and felt the flicker of hope at the end. I would love it if you were able to write more !

Oh god. Boromir has heard him all the time, I'm sure. Makes me cry.
