Adult_Viggo Drabble Challenge No 11
Aug. 29th, 2006 06:27 pmTitle: The Challenge
Author:
rifleman_s
Characters: Viggo & Sean
Warnings: None, unless you count rambling and a bit of fluff!
Disclaimer: I’d love it to be true, but alas it’s all a “figtree of my imagination”. No offence intended to such lovely gentlemen.
A/N: Once again (!) I’ve taken a liberty with the timelines.
A/N2: Please bear with my rambling – there is a point at the end!
(It’s a little longer than Drabble length so it’s behind the cut).

adult_viggo Drabble Challenge No 11
Based on this picture:

The Challenge
They had a challenge going, Sean and Viggo. No one else knew, or would ever know – it was just something between the two of them. If asked, neither would have been able to say how it started; just one of those lost-in-the-mists-of-time friendly rivalry things, but now it was a matter of honour and neither man would ever dream of not rising to the other’s challenge.
They never used e-mails or texts or ‘phone calls – just sporadic letters delivered by mail to wherever in the world one of them might be, so each would recognise the handwriting of a genuine challenge. It might perhaps be just one word, or two, or a well-known phrase, and then the challenge-ee had no more than 12 hours to arrange for an inventive photograph to be seen world-wide . . .
Thus, ”Peaceful Dreams” saw Viggo climbing – fully clothed – into a convenient bed with Karl, holding up two fingers in the universal gesture for peace. ”Love Thine Enemy” had Sean enthusiastically kissing the model of an Orc. ”Hold the Front Page!” caused Viggo to share the reading of his morning paper (and most of his breakfast) with an as-yet-unnamed new horse. And presently, Sean held the record for being photographed in the shortest time after receiving a challenge, when only moments after reading Viggo’s scribbled words ”Clothes Maketh the Man” and thrusting the letter into his pocket, he found himself at the ‘Flightplan’ premier where a grinning Jodie Foster leaned in to straighten his shirt collar.
The latest challenge had Sean a bit baffled, though. Viggo’s handwriting was not easy at the best of times, but this challenge had been written down and crossed out so many times it was difficult to tell which words were left to be read. What Sean thought he could make out was the word ”rugged”. The rest of the sentence was a complete mystery. “Does he mean me or a landscape?” he wondered. In the end, he went for both . . .
End.
And – just for a treat, I’ve included all the pictures referred to, so you can be assured that their challenge is alive and well . . .

(I'm sorry I don't know who to credit for the pictures, but thank you if it's you).

Date: 2006-08-30 09:54 am (UTC)It's strange that comments alternate between people who knew all the pics without looking and those who didn't know them at all . . . so a very useful little pic-spam, iif nothing else!!

Date: 2006-08-30 10:04 am (UTC)I love the thought of the two of them teasing each other this way and, of course, Sean would have to rise to the latest challenge even without knowing all the words!
