The Journals

After the funeral, opening the box, Sean began to read the letter . . .

“If you are reading this, then have I passed on, and you’re holding all that remains of me apart from memories.

These ancient book-covers are an ingenious disguise for the journals that chronicle our life. Times we were together; times we were apart. Laughter and conversations shared. Times we wept together; made love together. My words, my memories, our remembrances, all in here – from the first day we met until I could no longer write.

You hold all my love for you in these books.

Remember me . . .

Viggo.”

In many respects one of the most touching things about the situation described here is the forethought that has gone into one partner leaving as much of himself as he is able for the other - to have and to hold. Neatly done. Thanks for posting.

I'm extremely touched by this comment . . . the "to have and to hold" was just what I was aiming for. I see Viggo as the sort of man who does always think of others and consider their feelings and it would be especially so of a dearly loved one.
