Football Info
May. 26th, 2003 10:18 pmThis is for all of those people who didn't know much about football (aka soccer.) Since it is being featured in my next two stories, and since it was the subject of my earlier post, I thought I would give a quick summary of what is going on for anyone who is interested...
1) Sean Bean loves Sheffield United (also known as the Blades) though I hope everyone already knew this.
2)In the English Premier League there are at least five levels. The Premier League (which is the highest) and then Divisions One through Division Five (Division One being the best after the Premier League).
3) There are twenty teams in the Premier League.
4) At the end of each season, the three worst teams from the Premier Division are relegated to the First Division.
5) The top two teams from the First Division are promoted to the Premier League.
6) The teams ranked #3-#6 in the First Division play a mini-tournament to decide who gets the final open spot in the Premier League.
7) The same general thing happens between Divisions One and Two, between Divisions Two and Three, etc.
8) Today Bean's beloved Blades, who were in the First Division this year, were in the final competition to see if they could get a spot in the Premier League.
9) They lost 3-0 to Wolverhampton. So Wolverhampton were promoted to the Premier League and Sheffield United have to wait another year in the First Division for a chance at the Premier League.
