It Just Happened

It just happened that way. I had no idea that what he felt for me was more than mere friendship. Well, I say ‘mere’, although it was anything but that. The things we shared with each other delved deeper than anything I had known before, but he never ventured beyond, never attempted anything more, never crossed the invisible line, until . . .

The sad news day. When there were tears that I couldn’t control. Everyone else avoided me, embarrassed, hesitant, uncomfortable, whatever. I was a little mortified, but eventually brought myself under control. Then he just took my hand . . . and my breath away.

~End~

Gentle evocation of that moment when a simple gesture is changed, when everything is changed by the intent behind a touch, more than fellow feeling for a suffering soul, it is a claiming, done with respect and tenderness.
