Having dressed the entire tree, he was surprised by his lover only giving one bauble.

“One red bauble? That’s it? That’s your contribution?”

“Mmm”

“That’s all?”

“It’s for you. My one, my only. I see red tints in your hair when the evening sun catches it. You wear that red sweater when you work. Your cheeks flush red when I tell you I love you. Your skin glows red when we lie entwined before the fire. Red’s the colour of the flame my heart holds for you. One red bauble – from me to you. Happy Christmas. Happy life. Happy love”.
